What We've Learned from 10,000+ Ground Mount Installations

There's a lot of theory in the solar industry. There's also a lot of reality. After more than 10,000 ground mount rack installations across the country, we've accumulated both — and the reality is usually more interesting.
We're not talking about lab conditions. We're talking about clay soil that doesn't drive the way the map said it would, arrays in the Northeast that see four feet of snow, and job sites where the survey and the actual terrain tell two completely different stories. Here's what that experience has taught us.
1. Soil Conditions Are Rarely What You Expect
Site assessments are a starting point, not a guarantee. Soil can shift dramatically across a single lot — from sandy loam to dense clay to rock shelf within a few hundred feet. Installers who plan for variability before they show up are the ones who stay on schedule. Those who assume the conditions will match the report often don't.

2. Snow Load Is Underestimated More Than Any Other Factor
Installers in the Northeast know this one well. A wet, heavy snow event can put enormous stress on a ground mount array. We've designed for it, tested for it, and we've seen what happens to systems that weren't built with it in mind.
For any installation above the Mason-Dixon line, snow load isn't a checkbox — it's a primary design consideration. Arrays that are properly angled, spaced, and anchored handle winter without issue.
3. Speed and Quality Don't Have to Be in Conflict
A well-designed system that's been installed thousands of times can be put up efficiently precisely because every part of the process has been refined through repetition. Efficiency is our process!

4. Communication Between Manufacturer and Installer Matters
When the company that made the system is also the one installing it, coordination is seamless. Questions don't have to travel through three layers of customer service. Engineering decisions get made by people who've actually been on job sites. And when something unusual comes up — and it frequently does — there's a direct line to the people who can solve it.
